The Unspoken Word
- a new magazine supporting the Hero Wars system and the world of Glorantha
Issue 1 out now!
The Unspoken Word is a new magazine devoted to the fantasy world of Glorantha and Hero Wars
rules system. It is edited by Mark Galeotti (the author of the forthcoming Hero's Book and one of the
authors of the Imperial Lunar Handbooks) and Simon Bray (long-time key artist shaping the visual
signature of Glorantha). Each issue will be 68 pages long, with background information, scenarios,
cults, herobands and cover maps and covers. The Unspoken Word will appear three times a year.
Each issue will have a theme, whether it be a place, a people or an issue. The first issue, out now,
looks at the pivotal but under-explored kingdom of Tarsh, southernmost part of the mighty Lunar
Empire and at the front line of its attempts to conquer the storm-worshippers of Dragon Pass.
Highlights of the issue include the official cult of Maran, Goddess of Earthquakes, which had to be
dropped from the official Storm Tribe supplement for reasons of space, as well as a comprehensive
study of the Exiles who worship her. The issue contains a full-colour map of the region, linked to an
illustrated gazetteer, from Arim's Footsteps to the Warnstone and details of several cities, including
Furthest (with a city map). There are full details for playing characters from Tarsh and even notes on
the history of Tarsh from Greg Stafford, creator of Glorantha. Background information ranges from a
summary of the movers and shakers of the kingdom to a detailed assessment of the Army and Tarsh
and even an account of 'A Day at the Executions' to give you some valuable ideas on a fun day out
while you're there (and a scenario). Click here for full details.
Issue two will be a Bandits & Outlaws special, followed by an exploration of Aldachur and the Far
Place. The focus of UW4 will be that perennially fascinating and horrifying topic, War!
You can buy individual issues or you can take out a three-issue subscription. We can accept sterling
cheques or credit and debit payments from anywhere in the world. For full details, click here
